Basic Info
Name:Miles Edgeworth
Website:Main LJ
Bio
Character Name: Miles Edgeworth
Character Series: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series.
Age: 26
Background: Miles Edgeworth is known as the 'Demon Prosecutor' who uses any means necessary to get a guilty verdict. There are even rumors about Edgeworth using fabricated evidence in his trials to win that 'Guilty'

There have been rumors from the production team of the games stating that Miles has a dog named Pesu that he loves dearly. It's said that if anything ever happened to Pesu, Edgeworth would be devastated.

SPOILERS FOR GS1: Turnabout Goodbyes (case 4)

When Edgeworth was a child, he had the goal to become a famous defense attorney just like his father, Gregory. Miles even defended Phoenix Wright in a classroom trial when an envelope of lunch money was discovered missing. Miles said that he would defend the innocent against wrong accusations like his father when Phoenix had inquired why he had helped, even though it had been Miles's lunch money that was stolen. It turned years out later that it had been Larry Butz that had stolen Miles's lunch money.

That dream was shattered one day when he was taken to the court house with his father. On that day, there was a large earthquake that trapped Gregory, Miles, and a bailiff named Yanni Yogi in an elevator for several hours. During that time, Gregory and Yogi fought because of stir-craziness and lack of oxygen. Miles picked up the first thing he could feel around for, which happened to be Yogi's gun, and threw it at Yanni Yogi. This resulted in a gunshot, and then Miles lost consciousness because of the lack of air.

During the court case later named DL-6, they used a spirit medium named Misty Fey to hear Gregory Edgeworth's testimony over who killed him. The ghost had been convinced that the murderer was none other than Yanni Yogi, but that hadn't been enough for the jury. Robert Hammond, the defense attorney in the trial, had gotten Yogi off scott free, which lead to Edgeworth's change in heart about his future goals. Instead of becoming a defense attorney, Edgeworth vowed to become a prosecutor to put all criminals in jail and never let one walk free.

Miles ended up looking up to Manfred von Karma as a mentor and foster father after his father's death. Karma was a powerful prosecutor and would stop at nothing short of murder to win a case. Karma was the kind of man that valued perfection above morals and all else in life. It didn't matter who was in the defendant stand, Karma was going to put him in jail, and he had a fourty-year perfect guilty-verdict record to go on.

On December 24, 2016 Miles was asked to meet Robert Hammond at Gourd Lake, where Robert Hammond was shot while out in the boat with Miles. Even though all evidence pointed to Miles being the killer, Phoenix Wright had pleaded with him to let him defend him in court. Miles had tried his best at first to keep Phoenix from the case, even though no other defense attorney would even consider him as a client. When Phoenix presented Miles with evidence from the DL-6 case, Miles gave in and told Phoenix everything that he knew, claiming that he did not shoot Hammond. He explained it by saying that he didn't know what had happened, and that Hammond had pulled the gun out on him and then he heard a shot and thought for an irrational minute that somehow Hammond had shot himself. Miles was sure that he was going to lose the trial, since the prosecutor on the bench was none other than Manfred von Karma.

During the day after the first trial, Miles confessed to Phoenix that he believed that Yanni Yogi had been innocent and his father had been covering for the real killer: Miles. Miles explained that he had heard a shot after he had thrown the gun and then there was a blood curtling scream that had haunted him for fifteen years. He said that he had woken up on many occassions in a cold sweat as he remembered that day through a reoccuring nightmare. Miled went on to explain that he deserved to be put into prison, but Phoenix wouldn't have that.

During the last day of the trial, all in accordance to von Karma's plan, Miles ended up being proven innocent of his first crime, but then went up to the witness's stand and confessed his version of what happened that day fifteen years before. Through the cross-examination, Phoenix ended up not only proving that Miles was innocent of that crime as well, but he also found the real murderer. Manfred von Karma.

Spoilers for GS1: Rise from the Ashes (case 5)

During the last case in the first game, Miles was once again in the Prosecutor's bench. Instead of his usual tactics of finding the defendant guilty without a second thought, he seemed to be on some kind of mission to look at every single possibility and every bit of evidence that he could find. They never say this openly in canon, but I believe that Miles was starting to find himself and realize that the only important thing in being a lawyer was finding the truth about who was guilty and who was innocent.

During the trial, the defendant (who happened to be the District Attorney and Miles's boss) disclosed that she had fabricated evidence in the SL-9 case two years ago. Miles, having been the prosecutor on the bench in that case, was incredibly torn by hearing that he had used false evidence to get a guilty verdict, even if he didn't know at the time that the evidence was forged.

After the trial, Miles Edgeworth leaves a mysterious note on his desk reading: "Miles Edgeworth, the prosecutor, chooses death" which lead Phoenix Wright to believe that Edgeworth had committed suicide because of the blemish on his pride and the overwhelming ridicule that seemed to magnify after that information was leaked to the press.

Spoilers for GS2: Farewell, My Turnabout (case 4) (sue me if I get these names wrong... I haven't double checked the names of the trials since I played XD;;; )

In the middle of an investigation of another high-profile case, Miles Edgeworth shows up to help Phoenix out. Miles explained that he had been living in France for the last year and had been watching Phoenix's progress, which is why he had turned up again. Miles explained to Phoenix that he had left for a year to find out the real meaning of being a Prosecutor, which only enraged the already betrayed-feeling Phoenix.

Just before the first trial of the case, the original prosecutor chosen, Franziska von Karma (daughter of Manfred von Karma and foster sister of Edgeworth) was shot in the shoulder and Miles had to take her spot on the bench. He knew the defendant must be guilty, but he continued the trial similar to how he handled the trial in Rise from the Ashes. Later on, he found out that Maya, Phoenix's sidekick, was being held for ransom and the ransom was an innocent verdict for the defendant. After that, Miles did his best to stall the trial, but would not relent to just letting Engarde (the defendant) walk away without being criminally punished.

In the end, Phoenix and Miles outsmart the kidnapper and Engarde and get Maya back as well as get a guilty verdict.

Note on relationship with Franziska: He views her as a sister. She views him as someone who was always one step ahead of her and she desires nothing more than to become better than him in prosecuting. They both care deeply about eachother as if they were flesh and blood siblings.

Personality: He has an undying hatred of crime and criminals and believes that guilty people should be put into prison. He comes off as egomaniacal, self-centered, overly confident, and unsympathetic. In reality, he has a fragile confidence in himself, he cares deeply about those around him, and he values justice over all else. He also has an incredible fear of earthquakes that's so bad even a small earthquake can leave him curled up into a shivering ball on the floor... his fears also include heights and (though they never mention it in canon, but I am sure the PTSD would kick in here) elevators.

Miles is incredibly thorough, quick-witted, and clever, and he even started his job as a prosecutor at the young age of 20. During his four years of prosecution before going into court againt Phoenix Wright, he had maintained a perfect record of guilty verdicts with the only exception being his first case, because the defendant had killed himself before the case was over. His record and the rumors about using false evidence and any means necessary to get a guilty verdict gave him the nickname 'Demon Prosecutor'.
Memory Lost: His father's murderer.
